Lofoten Winter Video

Lofoten Winter – Video + Time Lapse

Here’s a short film I just put together with footage and time lapse sequences from the last couple winters – mostly 2015, and a bit of 2014. Video was recorded on Nikon D800 and D810, while all time lapse sequences are from a Fuji XT-1.

If you like what you see, checkout my PHOTO WORKSHOPS page. I’ll be guiding two winter photography workshops on Lofoten in 2016. The first will be from January 21 – 30 and is run by Muench Worshops, I will be a co-guide. The 2nd Photo tour is from February 14 – 21 and will be run by me.

And if you’re heading to Lofoten yourself, there’s always my Seasons on Lofoten – Winter ebook. 🙂

New Lofoten Photo Workshop Winter 2016

Haukland beach, Lofoten Islands, Norway

I’m super happy to announce that I will be hosting my own photo workshop on Lofoten this winter: February 14 – 21, 2016.

You can find more info about the workshop here: Exploring Lofoten – Winter Photo Workshop 2016

Guiding my own workshops on Lofoten has been a long time dream of mine – you can see the business plan I wrote back in 2011, but until now I was never able to cover all the legal aspects of running a workshop to keep everything legitimate as it needs to be. However, now that I’ve been able to obtain residency in Germany, as well as teaming up with a local business on Lofoten, things can finally get underway.

And if you sign up to my email list by August, there is a substantial early bird discount for the workshop 🙂

With summer now in full swing, I’ve been busy writing new guides for everyone heading to Lofoten in the next few months.

This weeks updates are:

Nonstind – Mountain hiking guide. A 483 meter peak with fantastic views over Unstad beach.

Mountain huts guide. A brief overview to the mountain huts found on Lofoten

Hiking guide. An into for those hiking for the first time on Lofoten. Expect steep trails, but fantastic views.

If you guys are finding this more general travel information useful, please let me know! As it takes a lot of time of research and write everything…

It’s a bonus day today, with 2 new mountain hikes added to the site.

Mannen – 400 m, Vestvågøy.  Best known for its fantastic views over Haukland beach. This is a good destination for summer.

Festvågtind – 541 m, Austvågøy. Rising above Henningsvaer, this moderate peaks provides fantastic views over the village and islands below

New! Video Page

Lofoten By Sea

Filmed during a two week sailing along the Norwegian coast from Tromsø to the Lofoten Islands in August and September 2014. The trip was run by Vertical Shot Expeditions.

Some of you may have noticed that I added a video page to the site a few days back.  I have been shooting a fair amount of video + timelapse footage on Lofoten and elsewhere over the last couple years, yet up to this point, I haven’t really had time to put anything together.  And while I’m still new at editing and learning the programs (so don’t expect anything super fancy!), I think I will be nice to share another perspective of the Islands beyond just photos.

I’m also going to let the video branch out a bit beyond Lofoten, but they will still be limited to all things north and bad weather. Keep an eye out for some exciting stuff to come over the following months.

You can see my image gallery from the trip HERE.

New Ebook – Seasons On Lofoten – Winter

Seasons On Lofoten: Winter

I’m super happy to announce that I’ve just published my first eBook!  It’s taken up the majority of my free time over the last couple months, and I’ve just finished it less than 24 hours  before I’m heading back to Lofoten myself.

You can BUY THE BOOK HERE.

The cost is $5.  It is 104 pages long, contains 80 images (45 of which are a portfolio/location section) and nearly 15,000 words.  I mostly cover the basics for the first time visitor to Lofoten in winter.  But even as a photo book, I think most people will enjoy it.

New Lofoten Hiking Guide – Markan

I’ve just added a new hiking guide for the 600 meter high peak of Markan, located on Moskenesøy.

Markan was perhaps my favorite hike of the trip, no doubt due to some of the most fantastic light I’ve experienced while in the mountains of Lofoten.  And to think I could have easily missed this one and headed elsewhere as the weather was considerably worse than the forecast.  I actually spent a couple nights camping at the pass below the summit to use as a base to explore several more mountains in the area due to the somewhat long, and more importantly, boggy approach – best to get wet feet only once.

Anyhow, enjoy the page, and maybe give thought to heading up there yourself one day, the whole area is really wonderful and scenic…

New Lofoten Hiking Guide – Munken

The 2nd new mountain hiking page from my September Lofoten trip is now online and ready to be seen:

MUNKEN – Mountain Hiking Guide

Munken is a moderately high mountain on Moskenesøy, just beyond (or, above) the Munkebu mountain hut.  It is a nice hike with some pretty epic views at the top – though this is pretty standard for Lofoten!  It’s also a nice mountain to hike in combination with an overnight at the hut, or just camp nearby.

I still have a few more hiking pages to add, but I’m sort of struggling to find the time at the moment and a heavier than expected work schedule in California.  And with less than 2 months until I’m back on the islands in January to co-guide a photo tour for Muench Workshops (sold out, sorry guys…), it’s going to be a tight squeeze to get everything done.  But I’ll do my best!

As always, if you want to keep more up do date with things, it’s worth checking out my Facebook page where I tend to post more photos and behind the scenes stuff that will never make it here (not entirely of Lofoten, however)…

New Mountain Hiking Route – Stornappstinden

I have added a new hiking page for Stornappstind, a 740 meter high peak located above the village of Napp, on the eastern edge of Flakstadøy.

STORNAPPSTINDEN HIKING GUIDE

—–

I’m finally back from my autumn travels.  Next week I’ll probably post a brief summary of my trip, with more updates and hiking guides in the following weeks as I get images processed and words written.  Overall, I got up a few new peaks and had many nights filled with northern lights.  Not to mention the sailing trip.  Lots of stuff to come…  And only two months until I’m back on Lofoten in mid January to Guide a photo tour for Muench Workshops!
