I get a little busy with writing these days and so I sometimes forget that the origins of this website back in 2010was as a photo portfolio for my Lofoten work. But I also don’t process as many images as I used to, and so I need time to go back through the images I shot and edit some stuff which I may have missed, especially from the winters when I get too busy guiding to keep up with things.
I’m still mainly focused on writing at the moment, with some probably overly ambitious plans for two new ebooks within the next few months – though the 2nd one will likely have to wait until after my winter tour season. And hopefully some updates to already existing books. I’ll see what happens – my head only has so many words in it!
I’m happy to announce the second edition of Kungsleden South ebook. Now covering the southern 260km of trail between Kvikkjokk and Hemavan – and the whole of the Kungsleden if combined with Kungsleden North – Abisko to Kvikkjokk.
From the first edition which only covered the final section of the trail between Ammarnäs to Hemavan, I have added the 180km section between Kvikkjokk and Ammarnäs, now completing the trail.
The ebook itself has now nearly doubled in length, coming it at 159 pages with 139 images and over 16,000 words.
If you have already purchased the first edition, then you will receive an email to download this new edition.
This has been a long overdue hole that I had planned to finish for several year. However, despite my best efforts, I was never able to find a hiking partner, which makes my trips much more productive photographically, as well as fun. But finally this year I decided it was time to head back to Sweden, even if solo. And so in September I finally completed the missing section from Kvikkjokk to Ammarnäs over 9 days.
And it wasn’t just the Kungsleden I visited this year. In July I hiked the nearby Padjelantaleden. The first English language hiking guide to that wonderful trail is already in progress and will hopefully be completed before the new year. And I’m already planning a second hike of the trail for September 2020 – Autumn is always my favourite time in Swedish Lapland! And I have to say, the mosquitos were too ferocious for me in July! I’m never going back to Sweden in summer! So keep an eye out here for updates in the near future…
I’ve added 3 new mountain hiking guides to the website over the weekend. All 3 were previously available in the eBook: West Lofoten Hikes – But now they are here too. Though there is still some content that will remain exclusive to the ebook, at least for now.
There are a few more hikes in the lineup to be published, but with summer just around the corner, my hiking season is about to begin – and since I can’t really afford to travel anywhere myself at the moment, hopefully it’s a productive one! I have a list of hikes needed for various ebook updates, as well as some other stuff. Now just need to see if the weather will be cooperative and to find some hiking partners
I’ve added 2 new articles to the website in an attempt to get some information online before the beginning of the summer season. Most of the info is also in the updated edition of Seasons on Lofoten: Summer ebook, and will be added to the others when time allows.
The first article is a short write up about Norway’s newest national park – Lofotodden nasjonalpark. Created in 2018, it will oficially open in June 2019.
The second article is covering drone flying regulations in Norway and Lofoten, as drones are becoming an ever growing item in photography and travel – many people are unaware of the flying regulations for drones here. No one will care or listen to me anyhow, but when the police charge you 20,000 for flying too close to the airport or in a wildlife protection zone, don’t say you didn’t know. A recent article on NRK (in Norwegian) as an example after a video posted on YouTube was reported.
It has been a long overdue update, with the first edition released in 2015, before I moved to Lofoten. The 2nd edition is now 30 pages longer, 155 pages from the previous 125. Now with 122 images vs. the previous 98 images. Some re-writing of old sections, but mainly new content to reflect the modern reality of Lofoten, which has changed quite a lot in just 4 years.
Those of you who have purchased the first edition will receive a free update to the 2nd edition, even if you bought at the old price, so keep an eye on your inboxes for the new download link.
As always the ebooks are a continuing work in progress. Hopefully it won’t be another 4 years before the next update. But it is also a time consuming task – It’s been around 80 hours of work for this update.
There are are few new ebooks in the works as well. I’ve been out purposely photographing for a possible, and long overdue spring/autumn ebook. And hopefully another hiking ebook during the summer – though I haven’t been able to find any hiking partners. So if interested, shoot me an email, and maybe something will work out…
My first winter photo workshops are now online over on my PHOTO TOURS PAGE.
All my winter 2019 tours are now full. There will be several more winter 2020 dates announced soon as well. As with 2019, all 2020 dates will be with me co-guiding with other tour operators. I simply don’t have the time to run my own tours anymore – which is a good thing!
There will be some additional summer and autumn 2019 dates announced soon as well. But the schedule will be lighter than previous years, as there just doesn’t seem to be too much interest in summer here for some reason, so I will mostly keep summer free for me to be out in the mountains…
With summer just around the corner, I’ve made a small update to my ebook: West Lofoten Hikes
Main new content is 3 new mountain routes: Andstabben, Tindstind, and Fuglhuken – all located on Moskenesøy. And then a few minor grammer corrections and other things to try and keep the guide as fresh as possible.
Anyone who has purchased the previous version will get an email for a free download of the new edition.
If you haven’t bought the book yet, then CLICK HERE 🙂
Almost 3 years to the day since I launched the first edition, which was also my first ebook, it now is part of 6 guides to northern Scandinavia. This is mostly just a minor refresh of some data, correcting of some spelling, and a few new images in the portfolio.
Those of you who have purchased either of the previous versions will receive and email for a free download of this updated version. Check your spam folders if you don’t see anything! And if you still didn’t get an email, contact me.
It is the dark season here, so I’m getting a lot of writing done at the moment, so there will be more updates to the site over the next week. Some hikes in for the west will be delayed though, as I want to add them to the eBook – West Lofoten Hikes first, before they are available here, while other select mountains will only be found in the eBook.
It has been a busy finish to the autumn, with the best September weather that I can remember, and a pretty good October as well: Seeming endless days of sun and nights of northern lights – the past five nights in a row as I write this on Wednesday. But now the weather has finally turned a bit and snow is falling on the mountains above my house. So I have finally gotten around to publishing my photo tour schedule for 2018.
I’m keeping a light schedule for my group tours this year as I have already been booked on a number of individual private tours and guiding for other companies. If you are interested in a private tour, then contact me soon, as my schedule is about as full as I want it to be, so I wont be taking on many more trips for 2018.
