I’ve just published a complete updated for my Kungsleden trail ebook for 2026.
The biggest change is that I’ve combined the previous two versions: Kungsleden North and Kungsleden South into one single eBook. The good news is if you wanted both guides, it is now a little cheaper. That bad news is if you’re only hiking the northern loop of Abisko to Nikkaluokta, there’s now a lot more information that isn’t really relevant. Perhaps in the future I’ll make a mini edition for just that section at a lower price point.
The new eBook is now $22 (+VAT in EU), compared to $32 if you had purchased both of the previous editions.
I’ve added two new hiking guides for some easy small mountains on Vestvågøy: Haugheia (145m), located near Leknes, and Helligberget (238m), located in Unstad.
Haugheia is an easy family (and child) friendly low, flat ridge rising to the north of Gravdal on Vestvågøy. Popular with locals for an afternoon jog or Sunday walk, the path is well worn and easy to follow. While there are more spectacular views to be found in the area, Haugheia does have a nice overview across Nappstraumen to the mountains of Flakstadøy. For the photographer, the most interesting subject might be the small grove of twisted mountain birch trees about 2km into the walk.
Helligberget, meaning ‘the holy mountain,’ is a small hill on the west side of Unstad bay. While not necessarily a destination itself and more often seen in the background of images taken from the beach, it is a nice short hike with scenic views if you are looking for something fairly easy or a place to watch the midnight sun after an evening surf session.
I’ve added 4 new mountain hiking guides to the website today. They have all previously been available in the eBook: West Lofoten Hikes, but now they are also here on the website.
I will hopefully add several more hikes to the website throughout the spring, particularly for Vestvågøy and Austvågøy islands, where I spend a bit more time hiking last summer/autumn, but haven’t found the time or motivation to write the guides so far. Lately I’ve put most of my effort into eBook updates, so haven’t been paying as much attention to the website, other than the weekly Friday Photo blog posts.
But there are now quite a few mountains that I’ve photographed over the last years don’t have a place in any of my current eBooks, so I’ll (probably) add them here first, as any future eBook guides will likely be some years away, mostly due to Covid and lack of sales over the last year. Unfortunately resulting in that I can’t afford the amount of travel required to head east to Austvågøy on a regular basis. Hopefully things change for the better soon!
The ebook is a hiking guide to Sweden’s Padjelanta trail, which runs 140 kilometers from Kvikkjokk to Ritsem, through the heart of Padjelanta national park – Sweden’s largest.
The ebook contains 5 chapters. The first include detailed planning, travel, and equipment guides. While the final chapter is a hut to hut guide covering 10 days of hiking over the 140 kilmoters of trail.
In total the ebook is 140 pages long and contains 92 images.
I’m happy to announce the second edition of Kungsleden South ebook. Now covering the southern 260km of trail between Kvikkjokk and Hemavan – and the whole of the Kungsleden if combined with Kungsleden North – Abisko to Kvikkjokk.
From the first edition which only covered the final section of the trail between Ammarnäs to Hemavan, I have added the 180km section between Kvikkjokk and Ammarnäs, now completing the trail.
The ebook itself has now nearly doubled in length, coming it at 159 pages with 139 images and over 16,000 words.
If you have already purchased the first edition, then you will receive an email to download this new edition.
This has been a long overdue hole that I had planned to finish for several year. However, despite my best efforts, I was never able to find a hiking partner, which makes my trips much more productive photographically, as well as fun. But finally this year I decided it was time to head back to Sweden, even if solo. And so in September I finally completed the missing section from Kvikkjokk to Ammarnäs over 9 days.
And it wasn’t just the Kungsleden I visited this year. In July I hiked the nearby Padjelantaleden. The first English language hiking guide to that wonderful trail is already in progress and will hopefully be completed before the new year. And I’m already planning a second hike of the trail for September 2020 – Autumn is always my favourite time in Swedish Lapland! And I have to say, the mosquitos were too ferocious for me in July! I’m never going back to Sweden in summer! So keep an eye out here for updates in the near future…
I’ve added 3 new mountain hiking guides to the website over the weekend. All 3 were previously available in the eBook: West Lofoten Hikes – But now they are here too. Though there is still some content that will remain exclusive to the ebook, at least for now.
There are a few more hikes in the lineup to be published, but with summer just around the corner, my hiking season is about to begin – and since I can’t really afford to travel anywhere myself at the moment, hopefully it’s a productive one! I have a list of hikes needed for various ebook updates, as well as some other stuff. Now just need to see if the weather will be cooperative and to find some hiking partners
After a long pause in adding new content, mainly because I’ve been busy writing my next ebook for Lofoten – a hiking/mountain photography guide to Moskenesøy and Flakstadøy, I have added a new mountain hike to the site: VOLANDSTIND
Volandstind is located just down the road from my house, and sort of my backyards mountain. It is a good easy walk and I usually go up for the exercise most times and leave my camera behind. And the views, like most anything on Lofoten, are fantastic.
My ebook should be coming to a close in the next few weeks, which should then allow me a bit more time to add new hiking guides to the site. Though some mountains will only be available in the ebook, at least for a while, as I want to give exclusive content to people who help support me and my efforts here…
Kungsleden North is a day to day hiking guide covering the northern 180km of Sweden’s Kungsleden trail from Abisko to Kvikkjokk, including the popular northern loop of Abisko to Nikkaluokta. This guide covers everything from the basics of how to get there, what clothes you need to wear, to a day by day hiking guide of the trail. And more than just a written guide, Kungsleden North also provides you with hundreds of images to help inspire your hike.
More just an easy ridge walk than a mountain peak, this easy little hike provides you with some fantastic views over Yttersand beach. I hiked this route this past June, and it will also be featured in my upcoming ebook guide to the beaches of Lofoten – and the hikes to view them from above. I’m currently about 9,000 words into the writing process, and while I’m intending for it to be a mini-guide, the ebook will probably come in well over 50 pages – I guess I get carried away sometimes.
Thanks to everyone who has already gotten a copy of my 2 previous guidebooks: Seasons on Lofoten – Summer and Seasons on Lofoten – Winter. Without your support, I’m not sure how much longer I could keep providing new content for this site. So thank you!
